The new third-generation Kia Sportage is built on the same platform as the Hyundai ix35. Designed by ex-Audi design guru Peter Schreyer, the third generation of the Kia Sportage is built on the same platform as the Hyundai ix35 - but features unique design features such as a striking front grille with floating Kia badge and oversized rear lights. The sporty SUV is now longer, wider and lower than the second generation model, which won a number of industry awards including ‘Best Value MPV’ in Planet 4x4’s annual awards twice in a row. Kia suggests the longer wheelbase will increase ride quality and offer more space for passengers and luggage. The raised ground clearance and command driving position are in keeping with the sense of security offered when driving an SUV. Michael Cole, Managing Director of Kia Motors (UK) Ltd., said: “Sportage was the car that really made the breakthrough for Kia in Europe and the all-new version will make people sit up and take notice just as the original did. I am convinced it will begin a remarkable new chapter in the Kia story." The Korean manufacturer has promised a range of petrol and diesel engines when the five-seat Sportage arrives in the UK in late 2010.
