Renault presents its fastest ever road car
Renault has unveiled its fastest road car yet, the Megane Renaultsport 265 Trophy, ahead of its world debut this weekend at the Nurburgring in Germany.
The sporty hatchback boasts 265hp in total, 15 more than the current Megane Renaultsport 250.
Performance is also marginally improved from the current Megane Renaultsport. Acceleration from 0-62mph is now reached in 6 seconds exactly, up from 6.1, and the top speed is 158mph, improving from 156. The Megane now has a power-to-weight ratio of 191hp per tonne.
The new Megane also has high level racing-standard equipment. For example it has a Renault cup chassis which sports stiffer suspension, better brakes and an anti-roll bar.
Also fitted are racing seats, 19" alloys, LED daytime running lights and a Renaultsport Monitor for onboard performance tracking.
The car is also equipped with high performance Bridgestone Potenza RE050A tyres for greater traction in both dry and wet conditions.
An added perk with the Megane Renaultsport Trophy 260 is that ownership of it will allow free access to the full 2012 Renaultsport UK trackday calendar, worth about £650.
Drivers will therefore have a great opportunity to drive the hatchback at full potential around different racetracks across Britain.
The exclusive model will be limited to just 500 units produced worldwide, 50 of which will reach the UK.
The Megane Renaultsport Trophy 260 will cost an on-the-road price of £27,820 in the UK.
Order books for Renault’s fastest road car will open on 20 June; first deliveries will follow at the end of July.
