Range Rover Evoque takes double awards
The new Range Rover Evoque, set to go on sale in Britain next month, has been named Car of the Year by motoring magazine Auto Express in its annual New Car Awards.
The model has also scooped the Best Compact SUV title making it a double award winner.
Explaining the magazine’s decision to give the awards to the Evoque, Auto Express Acting Editior Graham Hope praised the car for its pricing and design.
He said: “The Evoque puts the hugely desirable Range Rover brand within the reach of compact executive car buyers for the very first time.
“The fact it looks and drives the way it does serves only to underline its premium appeal."
Land Rover has found it is already on to a winner after 18,000 customer orders were made for the Evoque before it has even gone on sale.
The new compact SUV is to be sold as a five-door and three-door coupe, and with a wide range of diesel and petrol engines. The range includes a 2.2 litre turbodiesel with 150hp or 190hp, the less powerful unit is estimated to deliver an emission rate of 130g/km CO2.
Another engine option is a 2.0 litre Si4 petrol unit, which combines direct fuel injection with turbocharging and will reach 0-60mph in 7.1 seconds.
Pricing for the Evoque starts from £27,955 for the eD4 Pure five-door six speed manual 2WD specification, while the 4WD equivalent is £28,705. The range-topping Si4 6 Speed automatic Dynamic coupe with LUX pack will cost £44,320.
All variants of the Range Rover Evoque will be available in UK showrooms by 2012.
Meanwhile Land Rover picked up another accolade at the 2011 Auto Express New Car Awards, as the Land Rover Discovery 4 received the Best Large SUV title.
