Peugeot RXH 508 Limited Edition arrives in UK
The new Peugeot 508 RXH, the UK's first ever diesel hybrid estate, will go on sale this month in the shape of a limited edition model.
The 508 RXH is not due to go on sale in the UK until March 2012, but just 30 of the high-spec Limited Edition will make their way into showrooms this month in the UK.
Priced at £36,000, the Peugeot 508 RXH comes in a top-spec trim which includes copper metallic paintwork, 19" alloy wheels and Xenon headlamps.
Inside, leather and Alcantara upholstery covers the heated seats, while quad-zone air conditioning, parking aids and a top level sound system are all included in the price.
Like the standard Peugeot 508 estate, the car features Peugeot's new front end including the New Lion badge and the distinctive 'cat claw' LED lights at the front.
The main differences lie under the body however, where the groundbreaking powertrain is the first of its kind in the UK.
Most hybrid cars currently on sale use a combination of electric motor powered by a battery and a small petrol engine.
However, the Peugeot 508 RXH instead uses a diesel engine and as a result boosts fuel economy to 67mpg and lowers CO2 emissions to 109g/km.
The low CO2 emissions have an impact on running costs. For the first year, UK road tax is free and the high fuel economy means less trips to the pumps.
The figures are all the more impressive because the engine setup delivers 200bhp and because the diesel engine powers the front wheels and the electric motor drives the rear wheels, the car is also four-wheel drive.
The Limited Edition is on sale on a first come, first served basis and will be the only chance to own a Peugeot 508 RXH before official sales begin in March 2012.
