Peugeot 508 saloon grabs 'green' award
Peugeot took two accolades at the Next Green Car Awards 2011 as the 508 Saloon e-HDi won in the Large Family Car category and the Peugeot iOn triumphed in the city car award.
The ceremony picks some of the greenest new cars available in the UK market, covering nine categories in total.
Next Green Car decides which cars are worthy of its awards based on its Green Car Rating which assesses a vehicle’s impact on the environment. Other aspects such as a car’s drive experience, innovation, design and value are also considered when picking a winner.
The Peugeot 508 Saloon with the 1.6 litre e-HDi diesel unit was deemed the winner of the Large Family Car category. Recently launched this year, the 508 offers a CO2 emission rating of just 109g/km with this diesel engine.
Next Green Car holds it in high regard, saying: ‘a great looking car, the new semi-automatic 508 is spacious and well equipped. Build quality and handling are excellent, with the best fuel economy in its class’.
Elsewhere Peugeot also won the City Car of 2011 award from Next Green Car for its electric powered iOn.
The small two-door hatchback is driven solely by a 47kW motor which means zero CO2 emissions are produced. It can achieve a top speed of 81mph and a maximum range of 93 miles.
Next Green Car said: ‘The iOn signals the arrival of the pure electric city car, practical, affordable, fun-to-drive, spacious enough for four, and a cinch to park’.
The Peugeot iOn is now available in showrooms for a total on-the-road price of £33,155.
On-the-road pricing for the Peugeot 508 Saloon range starts from £18,150.
