The new Mazda5 could reduce emissions by 15 percent thanks to a new engine. After receiving its world premiere in the Geneva Motor Show in March 2010, the Mazda 5 is now set to go on sale in the UK as part of Mazda’s 2011 model range. The focus was clearly on styling for the new MPV. Mazda’s Nagere Flow design language is utilised to increase the aerodynamics and handling of the car. The Mazda5 was designed specifically for the European family market as one of the most fuel-efficient cars in the compact MPV – sometimes known as the C-MAV - segment. A new 2.0-litre DISI petrol engine with i-stop feature and a six-speed manual transmission replaces the current 2.0-litre petrol model and Mazda claims the new model will reduce carbon emissions by 15 per cent. A 1.8-litre engine with six-speed manual transmission completes the range. The interior features Mazda’s ‘Karakuri’ seven-seat configuration, a system designed to increase the flexibility of the seating inside to create more space when needed. At the launch of the Mazda5 in early 2010, Hideki Matsuoka, Mazda5 Programme Manager, said: “Our team aimed to create a new C-MAV that combines superb practicality with the superior environmental performance these modern times demand and a new expression in stylish design."
