Mazda2 and MX-5 'Black' editions launched
Mazda has unveiled two new models to form the ‘Black Limited Edition’ range, the Mazda MX-5 Sport Black and Mazda2 Black.
Inspired by the MX-5 GT race car, the Black range offers sportier looking versions of the roadster and hatchback with both available to order from mid-July.
The MX-5 Sport Black sports distinct exterior styling features such as unique paint finishes, a ‘Brilliant Black’ powered retractable hard-top and dark ‘gun metal’ 17" alloy wheels.
All of this comes alongside a choice of body colours including Green metallic, Crystal White Pearlescent and Velocity Red Mica.
The ‘Black’ MX-5 boasts the same 2.0 litre petrol unit, six-speed transmission set up found on the Sport Tech specification which it is based on. With this the convertible offers 160hp which means acceleration from 0-62mph is achieved in 7.9 seconds, while the car also delivers a top speed of 139mph.
The roadster also offers a combined fuel economy of 36.2mpg and a CO2 emission rating of just 181g/km.
Just 500 units of the Mazda MX-5 Sport Black will be sold, each with an on-the-road price of £22,995.
Meanwhile the Mazda2 Black is available with three exterior body colours, Spirited Green metallic, Crystal White Pearlescent and True Red. The hatchback brings its own unique styling features as well. It adds matt black 16" alloy wheels, front fog lights, black vinyl roof, privacy glass and a rear bumper sports trim.
Based on the Tamura specification, the Mazda2 Black has a 1.3 litre engine with 84hp, offering 0-62mph acceleration in 13.6 seconds and a top speed of 106mph. The hatchback also delivers a combined fuel economy of 55.4mpg and emits just 119g/km of CO2.
Only 618 units of the Mazda2 Black will be made, on-the-road pricing for the limited edition car starts at £12,395 for the True Red version, while models in other metallic and pearlescent colours cost £12,815.
