Mazda MX-5 is 'best convertible 2011'
The iconic Mazda MX-5 has added another award to its collection as a winner in CarBuyer website’s inaugural ‘Car of the Year’ awards announced recently.
The two-seater roadster model picked up the category award for ‘Best Convertible’, scoring a star rating of 4.6 out of five (92%).
The MX-5 beat off competition from short-listed models from manufacturers including Porsche, Audi, Peugeot and Volvo to claim this prize.
The CarBuyer awards system used a judging criteria set by website visitors and experts from Auto Express, Evo and Octane magazines (all founders of the CarBuyer website).
In compiling its list of award winners across 17 different categories, CarBuyer focused on running costs, safety, mpg, performance and owner satisfaction as well as reliability and comfort.
Regarding the Mazda’s success, the CarBuyer judges stated: ‘The Mazda MX-5 reigns supreme as the ultimate drop-top choice.
With a soft-top model, the clever folding hard-top Roadster Coupe and even an automatic option, there is something for everyone, and the tiny two-seater is great fun to drive’. The MX-5 has topped 100,000 sales in the UK.
For this spring, the MX-5 range is to be expanded with the arrival of two special editions.
These new models, called the Mazda MX-5 Kendo, are available in two versions, the 1.8i Kendo soft-top priced at £19,255 (OTR) and the more powerful 2.0i Kendo Roadster Coupe priced at £22,320 (OTR).
Mazda claim the latter model has the fastest folding powered roof, moving up or down in 12 seconds. The new models feature premium specification including stone leather interior, tinted alloy wheels and chrome exterior accents.
Two new exterior colours are also made available, these are Sparkling Black Mica, and new to Mazda in the UK, Dolphin Grey Mica.
