Land Rover Discovery takes top SUV award
The Land Rover Discovery 4 has been awarded the ‘Best 4x4’ title at the 2011 Diesel Car awards, its second successive victory category.
The Discovery 4 fended off competition from other finalists, included rival the BMW X5 and sister model the Freelander 2, which won this award back in 2008 and 2009.
Diesel Car editor, Iain Robertson, said: "If there is a more all round capable car than the Discovery 4, we have yet to encounter it. With the latest generation Discovery you get everything you need to drive absolutely everywhere."
The rugged off-roader was praised by judges for its all-round ability and powerful diesel engines.
The Managing Director of Land Rover UK, Colin Green, added: “We are thrilled to receive this award, doing so for a second year running shows that the Discovery 4 continues to hold a clear advantage over its market rivals. And with Freelander performing so strongly, we can be proud of the strength in depth of our engineering, design and performance."
The Land Rover Discovery 4, first launched in 2009, has picked up a raft of industry honours.
Titles it has won include the 2010 What Car? 4X4 of the Year and 2009 Scottish Car of the Year, along with two awards in the 2010 Towcar of the Year contest. More recently the Discovery 4 was named Best Luxury 4x4 by Carbuyer.co.uk.
The Land Rover Discovery 4 is a major update over its predecessor (the Discovery 3). It uses the same Integrated Body Frame structure, but boasts a redesign in exterior and interior features along with upgrades to some of its components. The SUV model is currently priced from £36,785.
