Kia Picanto wins Northern Car of the Year award
The new 2012 Kia Picanto is the Northern Car of the Year after being awarded the title by the Northern Group of Motoring Writers.
The accolade it the first the small city car has received since it went on sale in the UK three months ago but Kia believes it will not be the only honour bestowed on the car over the next 12 months.
Michael Cole, Managing Director of Kia Motors (UK) Limited said: "We are delighted to get this award from such a well-known group of fair-minded and practical journalists! This is the first major award for Picanto but I don't think it will be the last."
The Kia Picanto's success is down to an upgrade in its design outside and inside alongside new levels of equipment and the use of higher quality materials.
Derrick Grocock, Vice-Chairman of the Northern Group of Motoring Writers, said: "Picanto was a clear winner thanks to its looks, quality and excellent packaging which makes it such a perfect city-car."
Priced from £7,795 for three-door versions and £7,995 for five-door models, the Kia Picanto comes with a choice of 1.0-litre and 1.25-litre petrol engines - both coming with eco-friendly versions that qualify for zero road tax and exemption from the London congestion charge in the UK.
The new Kia Picanto is available in 1, 2 and 3 specifications, but a new '1 Air' has also been introduced to add air conditioning to the entry-level model.
As with all new Kia cars, the new Kia Picanto city car comes with the impressive seven year warranty in the UK. The new Kia Picanto is also available with the new '61' registration plates, which were launched in the UK from 1 September.
