Kia hits ten year milestone sponsoring Australian Open
2011 sees Kia named the main sponsor of the Australian Open for the tenth consecutive year, handing over a fleet of 101 official tournament vehicles for use during the competition.
This takes the number of Kia cars used in the Australian Open over the last decade to 909, and like in previous years, the current fleet will be used to transport players, officials and VIPs to matches and other activities throughout the grand slam.
World number one tennis player and Kia global ambassador, Rafael Nadal, was on hand to present the keys to Steve Wood, Tennis Australia CEO, who commented:
“The sight of the Kia fleet ferrying players, media and officials round Melbourne is synonymous with the Australian Open and contributes to the tangible excitement and buss that the even brings to the city."
Kia’s courtesy fleet, which includes cars such as the Sorento and Sportage, will be driven by 20 specially trained drivers that expect to cover around 180,000 miles during the Open.
“As a proud sponsor of the Open, we are providing opportunities for athletes, volunteers and guests to experience the excitement of the tournament with relative ease," added Kia Motors Australia President and CEO, M.K Kim.
