Jaguar unleashes the XKR-S on runway
The new Jaguar XKR-S has made a surprise debut drive at the Race the Runway charity event in Edinburgh.
The event held by The Prince & Princess of Wales Hospice at Edinburgh Airport involves 32 cars which compete in a series of drag races along a 1,800 metre runway.
Joining the participants where the Jaguar XKR-S, XKR and the Jaguar XFR, making its debut in Scotland.
The 542bhp V8 XKR-S made it as far as the semi-finals and was only outpaced by vehicles more than twice its price.
A Corporate Fundraiser for the charity group, Ashley Kilgour, said: “We’re delighted that Jaguar supported the Race the Runway event this year and our thanks go to them."
“The event raised a combined total of over £11,000 this year for The Prince & Princess of Wales Hospice and the Scottish Burned Children’s Club which will make a valuable difference."
The Jaguar XKR-S will be the new range-topping model for the XK range when it goes on sale.
The sports model holds 550hp, allowing it to reach a top speed of 186mph. Also, the XKR-S will accelerate from 0-60mph in just 4.2 seconds, achieving 0-100mph in just 8.6 seconds. These performance figures beat those of any other Jaguar production car made so far.
The XKR-S coupe will be available to buy in the UK from this September, along with the new XK and XKR in convertible form. Prices for the XK range start at £65,000, rising to £97,000 for the XKR-S.
