Ford raise market shares in July
Ford remains the leading manufacturer in UK car sales, with both the Fiesta and new Focus occupying the top two spots for registrations in the month of July.
Statistics from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) reveal that in the month of July the manufacture sold 18,245 cars and took a 13.9% share of the UK market, a slight increase from 13.5% held in the same month last year.
The Ford Fiesta sold 6,695 sales in July, once again making the best selling model in the UK for the month. The city car also remains the highest registered car in the year to date with the total number sold now at 58,338 units.
The Ford Focus was the second best selling model for the month of July and remains in this position for the year to date as well. The family car got 6,235 registrations in July alone, an increase from 4,208 achieved in the same month last year. In the year to date the Focus has sold 50,060 units.
Overall in the year to date, Ford has now sold 162,726 cars in the UK and holds a 14% market share.
The company’s share in retail car sales for the year to date is at 12.5%, an increase from 11.7% held at this time at least year.
Commenting on Ford’s latest performance, Ford of Britain managing director, Nigel Sharp, said: ‘Ford’s best ever vehicle range demonstrated the breadth of its appeal by helping the company to increase share in all the key market sectors in July.
‘Our latest addition, the new Ford Focus Studio, priced at under £14,000, will help us maintain this momentum as we and our dealers gear-up for the September sales rush’.
