Ford Fiesta tops sales in May
Ford continues to lead UK sales as the Fiesta and Focus were the two best selling cars in May and remain so in the year to date.
According to figures released by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) the American manufacturer sold a total of 21,581 cars in the month of May 2011. This signifies a slight improvement when compared to the same month last year when 21,300 units were sold.
Ford also took an 11.5% market share this May, up from 10.8% achieved in May 2010.
The Fiesta supermini recorded 8,135 sales in May 2011, more than any other model and also an increase from 6,619 sales in the same month last year. In the year to date the Fiesta has sold a total of 42,814 units.
The Ford Focus meanwhile sold 6,492 in May 2011. In the year to date, the family car has managed 35,770 sales.
The Ford C-Max sold more than double this May when compared to the month last year. The MPV registered 1,548 sales up from 734.
In the year to date, Ford has overall sold 120,020 cars.
Ford of Britain managing director, Nigel Sharn, commented: ‘Achieving this result with the car market down from last year is a tribute to both the strength of our dealer network and our best ever vehicle range’.
The Ford Fiesta is available from a starting price of £9,995. The most expensive and top of the range version, the S1600, is currently sold at Ford dealerships for £15,900.
Pricing for the Ford Focus currently starts from £16,000, rising to £21,250 for the range-topping Titanium X model.
