Fiat heads stateside with 500
Fiat has announced its return to the North American market by unveiling the US-spec 500 city car at the Los Angeles Auto Show.
The Mexican-built 500 has been fine-tuned for the American market with a bigger fuel tank, increased crash resistance, modified suspension and redesigned heating and cooling system to cope with climate extremes. It will be priced from $15,500 when it’s released next spring.
"America is returning to simplicity with renewed attention focused on the environment," says manager of the Fiat brand in North America, Laura Soave.
“Our new car identifies with the current minimalist bent and offers an advanced and eco-sustainable technology enveloped by an aura of top quality, precision and style."
Like in Europe, American customers can specify their Fiat 500 in Pop, Sport or Lounge trim levels and can choose from 14 interior and exterior finishes.
The 100bhp 1.4-litre MultiAir engine will be offered in the states, which reduces fuel consumption and CO2 emissions by 10 per cent compared to similar engines on the market.
The Fiat 500 is available in the UK from £8,887.
