European debut for new Vauxhall Zafira Sports Tourer
The new 2012 Vauxhall Zafira Sports Tourer will make its European debut next month at the Frankfurt Auto Show, Vauxhall has confirmed.
A first glimpse of the new seven-seat people carrier took place at the Geneva Motor Show in March, but the latest model to appear will be much closer to a road-ready version.
This means the interior is expected to be revamped - the iPads adorning the rear seats and full leather trim is expected to be replaced with something a little more modest.
However, the seven-seat system, named flex7, will appear on the new Zafira Sports Tourer. The system builds on the current Zafira's seating configuration by offering any number of different seating and luggage configurations.
Vauxhall says the Zafira Sports Tourer will be updated with a higher quality interior than previous versions, including new upholstery options and more equipment.
Designers labelled the concept car a 'lounge on wheels', stating the new Zafira Sports Tourer would offer a lounge-like experience for passengers out on the road.
In terms of looks, the new Vauxhall Zafira Sports Tourer will be given a complete overhaul. The front end now matches that of the Vauxhall Ampera with distinctive, boomerang-shaped headlamps and a new grille.
It also features a sloping panoramic roof and curved lines towards the tailgate, with a sloping roof dipping to meet the rising lines.
The new Vauxhall Zafira Sports Tourer will also come with a range of new, more frugal engines and Vauxhall's ecoflex range of diesel engines, recently extended to apply to all cars in Vauxhall's range, is expected to make an appearance on the final price lists.
The Vauxhall Zafira Sports Tourer will appear at Frankfurt alongside the new Vauxhall Astra GTC, a final production version of the Vauxhall Ampera extended range electric vehicle and an unnamed 'experimental' car, whose identity remains a mystery.
