Citroen unveils full DS range
The entire DS range will be displayed side by side for the first time later this month as Citroen looks to promotes its premium models.
That means the DS5 will be on show for the first time in Europe with the French manufacturer keen to expose the compact executive before its release next year.
The DS5 is the first Citroen model to carry HYbrid4 full-hybrid diesel technology which was originally seen on the Peugeot 3008 - the world's first diesel-electric hybrid powertrain.
It combines a 2.0 litre HDi diesel engine which drives the front wheels while an electric motor powers the rear axle. The result is a car with four wheel drive capability, 200bhp at its disposal and CO2 emissions of just 99g/km.
Stop/start engine technology and a six-speed automatic gearbox are also included to aid emissions and fuel economy. The powertrain is the same as that used in the Peugeot 3008 HYbrid4, which achieves an average fuel economy of over 60mpg.
The vehicle can be driven in four different settings including; 'Auto' for optimum fuel consumption, 'Zero Emission Vehicle' for electric power only, '4 Wheel Drive' to utilise both drive systems and 'Sport' for maximum use of both the diesel and electric motor.
It's a sleek four-door design but it retains a spacious boot with 465 litres storage capacity and room for five adult passengers. The interior includes two central consoles; one low down on the driver and another above the head in a 'pilot-style' fashion.
The new Citroen has performed well in crash safety tests, receiving a five star safety rating from Euro NCAP, including a score of 97% in the 'Safety Assist' category
The Citroen DS5 will go on sale in the UK in early 2012.
