The third generation Focus is set to be a strong seller for Ford. The third generation Ford Focus will be built on the same platform as the C-Max and Grand C-Max, both introduced in 2010. Initially three and five-door hatchbacks and a saloon version will be available, but Ford has promised more models to follow. Designed using Ford’s ‘kinetic design’ – a method employed to make the car look like it is moving even when it is stationary – the Focus features a coupe shaped rear end and an interior designed in a similar vein to the Fiesta. Unlike other C-segment offerings, the Focus will have 80 per cent identical parts in all markets around the world and will be launched simultaneously in European and American markets. Powertrains for the Focus will consist of Ford EcoBoost four-cylinder turbocharged direct injection engines and Duratorq TDCi common rail diesels. Ford says the new engine options will cut fuel consumption between 10 and 20 per cent compared to outgoing models. The new Ford Focus has been designed to reduce noise inside the cabin and high strength steels employed in the body shell improve crash performance across the range.
