Renault Twizy prices revealed for UK
Renault has revealed full prices of its two-seat electric car, the Renault Twizy, months before it goes on sale for UK buyers.
The Renault Twizy will officially go on sale in UK showrooms in March 2012 and prices will start from £6,690.
This is the lowest price for an electric car in the UK despite it not being eligible for the government's £5,000 electric car grant.
The two-seat city car dispenses with the use of conventional doors, instead using 'scissor door-like' barriers on each side. This is designed to reduce the weight to just 450kg.
As a result the car can make use of a small electric motor but still achieve speeds of up to 50mph and a range of 60 miles. Due to its small size, it is designed to be ideal for driving in city traffic and finding a parking space in busy areas.
It is also eligible for free road tax in the UK and is completely exempt from the London congestion charge for South East drivers.
The Renault Twizy will be available in three distinct specifications. The first, Urban, comes with two glove compartments (one of which is lockable), a heated windscreen, three-point seatbelts and a front airbag.
Priced from £6,695, the Renault Twizy Urban is the lowest price model in the range. The Renault Twizy colour adds extra colour options for the body, doors and roof and costs £6,950.
Finally, the range-topping Technic adds more equipment as standard and comes in at £7,400. All models are also subject to a battery charge from £40 per month.
This, says Renault, means any issues with battery replacement will be taken over by the manufacturer instead of the customer.
