New Peugeot 508 saloon is expected to feature many design aspects of the '5 by Peugeot' concept
Peugeot will replace the 407 range with a saloon car based on the ‘5 by Peugeot’ concept unveiled in March 2010.
The new saloon, possibly the new Peugeot 508, will be introduced by the French marque in early 2011 and it is expected to feature many design aspects of the '5 by Peugeot' concept.
A lower end luxury saloon, the 5 by Peugeot is aimed at the likes of the Ford Mondeo and Vauxhall Insignia in the highly contested segment.
The 5 by Peugeot was in turn influenced by the SR1, a previous Peugeot concept car. However, it features the new design for the Lion badge, unique front grille and headlamps and a traditionally styled Peugeot rear end.
Hybrid technology from the 5 by Peugeot concept and earmarked for the 2011 Peugeot 3008 will feature in the Peugeot 508 when it arrives.
The 2.0-litre 163bhp diesel engine is twinned with a 37bhp electric motor mounted at the rear of the vehicle in the hybrid powertrain set-up, providing an overall power output of 200bhp.
The hybrid technology in the concept car returns 74.3mpg and 99g/km of CO2 emissions.
