The Fiat 1.4 MultiAir Turbo engine has received the Best New Engine of the Year Award.

The engine - the first Fiat powertrain to incorporate MultiAir technology - was recently chosen as the winner by a panel of 65 judges at the Engine of the Year Awards ceremony.

MultiAir technology combines the electro-hydraulic management of the inlet valves with a turbocharger – making the engine efficient yet powerful.

Between 135 and 170bhp is on offer across the range of vehicles the engine powers, with the most potent powertrains boasting fuel consumption and emissions of around 40mpg and 134g/km of CO2 on a combined cycle.

This Fiat MultiAir 1.4 engine can be found in the Fiat Punto Evo, Abarth Punto Evo and the Alfa Romeo Giulietta. The Italian manufacturer is expected to soon make it an option in the Fiat Bravo.

Dean Slavnich, Co-Chairman of the Awards, says “Lots of power combined with serious reductions in emissions makes this a very good engine."

“It’s easy to see why it has won Best New Engine for 2010."
