New Citroen DS3 is set to take on the Fiat 500 and is fully configurable. The French manufacturer’s answer to the Fiat 500 has been the subject of an ‘anti-retro’ advertising campaign, a photo competition to find life’s most ‘unique’ images and has even spawned a limited-edition racing version. The three-door supermini, based on the Citroen C3, is available from £11,700 and Citroen claims there are thousands of combinations available through a bespoke online configuration service offered with the DS3. Features such as engine, trim level, body colour, roof colour and graphics, and other optional extras can be chosen as part of the service. Extra options for the DS3 include metallic body colours, LED diodes, alloy wheels, chrome door mirrors and a choice of dashboard colours. The Citroen DS3 is offered in three specifications: Dsign, DStyle and DSport. There is a choice of three petrol and two HDi diesel engines ranging from 90bhp to 150bhp. The most frugal engine, the 1.6 HDi 16V 90bhp unit, delivers CO2 emissions of 99g/km and returns 74.3mpg. A range-topping, fully specified DSport model with a 1.6 THP 150bhp petrol engine costs £18,775. The DS3 is the first of the DS line from Citroen and will be followed by both the DS4 and DS5 after they made their world debut at the Geneva Motor Show in March 2010.
